The Man Behind the Curtain

By Matt Lockett

"Ignore the man behind the curtain!" That was the ominous warning that the great Wizard of Oz shouted to Dorothy and her companions when his true identity was in danger of being exposed. The giant and menacing floating head had intimidated the residents of the land long enough. Dorothy succeeded where others had failed. She ventured where others had lacked the courage to go. Not only did she vanquish the evil witch, but probably more importantly she liberated the inhabitants of Oz with truth.

In preparation for a planned profile article this week, a Newsweek columnist spent some time in Omaha, NE with abortionist Leroy Carhart. The author's intent was to actually WATCH abortion procedures taking place apparently to see what all the fuss was about. If you're unfamiliar with Carhart, he's the former activist colleague and Midwest heir to late-term abortionist George Tiller. He defiantly wears his abortion clinic as a perverted badge of honor.

No need for a pretty facade or nice landscaping. No, Leroy maintains a facility that looks like it should be condemned. A billboard-sized sign adorns the front telling it just like it is--"Abortion & Contraception Clinic." I joined with fellow Bound4LIFE Chapters a while back to pray outside this clinic. I was horrified not only by the knowledge of what was taking place inside, but also by the dozens of squirrels scurrying in and out of holes in the walls. Hard to believe this qualifies as a place for quote-unquote medical procedures. No joke, this place is a dump.

The columnist reportedly watched the first-trimester procedures and described them as "minimally invasive." She was unmoved even by the sound of the vacuum machine or the "pinkish fluid" seen flowing through the tube. Technically it appeared to her to be only slightly more involved than a standard ob-gyn exam. Her unexpected reaction, though, came with being confronted face to face with the very real emotions she witnessed in the women. The revelation came when confronted with the real people vs the ideology of the debate.

At the core this is the other very significant half of what the abortion industry doesn't want the public to see–much less think about too much. They've only semi-successfully confused the public enough into thinking that a baby in the womb maybe isn't really a life, but even that is dramatically changing even now. For decades they've lied to women and the American people telling them that abortion is good for them. The tragic truth is that abortion is far from being good for women or anyone else touched by its devastating effects. Quite the contrary.

Silence is the abortion industry's best friend; disinformation their ugly bed fellow. It's time to pull back the curtain on Planned Parenthood, Leroy Carhart and the abortion industry with all the inglorious naked truth that comes with it. The day has come to challenge the smoke and mirrors like the Wizard of Oz and expose the truth of the levers and switches being carefully manipulated behind the scenes. Like Newsweek's columnist, I believe that truth will have a profound effect on the nation's conscience and give us a better perspective that goes well beyond the rhetoric and ideology. Ultimately, we're fighting for real people--real babies in the womb and real women and men that will be devastated by their misinformed choices.

I wholeheartedly support the work of Operation Outcry. They're comprised of post-abortive women that are now bravely making their voices heard. They are speaking out the naked truth that their abortion hurt them in unforeseen ways. I believe they have the potential to pull back the curtain more than anyone else so that the nation can see they're being manipulated. Please join Bound4LIFE in praying for the effective work of Operation Outcry.

What if we all began to dream a big dream with them to raise up a million voices of post-abortive women? What if these same women gathered on the Mall in DC in 2012? Would the nation hear?

If you're post-abortive and would like to be a part of the 1 million voices, Operation Outcry needs your Declaration. Download it here.
