HIDING BEHIND HYDE

On Monday the Senate Finance Committee’s health care bill was filed in the Senate. Take a look at the 1,502 pages, and it’s what you won’t find that is so unsettling. To date every single attempt by pro-life lawmakers to insert language that guarantees what President Obama promised has been blocked or voted down. That promise from his speech to the joint session of Congress was that there would be:

“No government funding of abortion.”

The Committee’s bill has no language that expressly prevents the inclusion of abortion under government-run health care. Disinformation and confusion persist even as polls show that the overwhelming majority of Americans DO NOT want taxpayer-funded abortion.

What you WILL hear is talk about the Hyde Amendment as a pre-existing safeguard. However, Hyde only deals with Medicaid funds. Besides that, it is something that must be renewed every fiscal year and is subject to the whims of what Congress considers the status quo.

When his amendment to the bill was voted down, Senator Hatch stated that he was simply trying to codify the Hyde Amendment and not change the law. He went on to say that blocking such a measure is a clear indication that pro-abortion lawmakers intend to “do away with the Hyde amendment if they can.”

NOW WHAT?

Currently the bill is behind closed doors as it is being merged with the Health Committee bill, so right now it’s unclear what the final version will look like when it is brought to the Senate floor for debate in another week. These are the days of the back room deals and the gathering of votes before it ever gets to the floor.

If it doesn’t already have 60 votes, it is very near that. We must SURGE IN PRAYER NOW for the turning of key Senators.

I have just been urged by a pro-life Senator that there is no time to waste. We must mobilize everything at our disposal. There are many many concerns with this health care legislation, but specifically on the abortion issue right now…“This is where we die.”

WIN THE BATTLE IN THE HEAVENS

The opening quote is three lines taken from a Matthew Arnold poem. For five years it has given Bound4LIFE language for our unrelenting posture of prayer to end abortion. “Find my body near the wall” is no light matter. It means that, no matter what, we will not stop in our cry for justice…no matter the cost. This is the moment we live in right now.

Many pro-life organizations are giving ample information to contact your elected officials to make your voice heard. I endorse every effort to persuade these Senators through phone calls, emails and every other form of contact.

My plea to you today is heart-felt and sincere: Win the battle in the heavens through prayer and fasting.

The crisis is real. The consequences are catastrophic. But I still believe that God can turn the king’s heart whichever way pleases him. I believe Senators can come under a greater influence than the spirit of the age and the agenda of the evil one. The Praying Church is the real seat of government. I’m urging everyone to surge forward in prayer between now and Christmas. We cannot wait to see if phone calls and emails alone will work. We must get breakthrough and assurance that Health Care Reform in America does not allow for taxpayer-funded abortion.
