Pregnancy Is An Encounter With God
Pregnancy is an encounter with God Himself. Every child newly formed in the womb reveals the presence of our Father in heaven. It is God at the height of His loving wisdom and brilliant artistry. It represents His commitment as our Creator to newness of life, the wellbeing of humanity and our very redemption. It represents hope.
One of the schemes of the evil one in our generation has been to shroud pregnancy with shame. Yet the Word of God portrays it as a cause for great rejoicing! (Ps. 113:9, 127:3) This is because Scripture offers us an alternative perspective for the development of unborn children than modern science, that is, with the direct involvement of God in view. The Lord individually fashions every child, and does so in the same way He made Adam: personally and hands-on.
Your hands have made me and fashioned me, an intricate unity… Did you not… clothe me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews? (Job 10:8-12)
One day as I led a silent siege, the voice of the Lord filled my heart and thundered:
“I plan every parenthood”
Every child is a child God wants! He is willing to take responsibility for each and every one.
The Lord is good. Though as was once said of Aslan, He is neither safe nor tame. He has a choice to be reckoned with, and can make choices at His pleasure that supersede our own. Though modernity has raged against it, the Lord alone wields the power of conception, and uses it to test our hearts (Gen 25:21, 29:31-30:2; 1 Sam. 1:5-7, Ps. 17:14). What will we do with His choice? Whose choice knows wisdom? Do I know better than God?
The Father of spirits has planned each of our lives from before the foundation of the world (Heb. 12:9; Ps. 139:16). He is ultimately the one who has chosen to create a new child in the womb, regardless of complications. If we will lean into His sovereign leadership in spite of abuse, moral failure, or insufficiency, He can work even the most complex situation for His glory.
Let us bow low before Christ Jesus to receive His mercy, and surrender to His leadership. Though we might face the greatest pain, trial, and suffering imaginable, His headship is like the finest gold, and we can place our trust in Him.
