Mugged By Ultrasound

By Tiffani Edwards

86% of abortion-minded women who see an ultrasound of their baby decide to parent their child instead. I’m sure you have heard this stat several times from pro-life organizations, your church, or a maybe even a politician. But when you are actually in an ultrasound room and experience a mother seeing life in her womb for the first time you are never the same.

Abortion providers know the power of an ultrasound too. Why do you think they strategically turn the ultrasound monitor out of sight from any client seeking an abortion? Generally would never hear such a statement from an abortion provider or even a pro-choice person. However here are a couple examples from a Weekly Standard article that reveal abortionists who are struck head on with the reality of this life in the womb.

“…One of the first doctors to change his allegiance was Paul Jarrett, who quit after only 23 abortions. His turning point came in 1974, when he performed an abortion on a fetus at 14 weeks’ gestation: “As I brought out the rib cage, I looked and saw a tiny, beating heart,” he would recall. “And when I found the head of the baby, I looked squarely in the face of another human being—a human being that I just killed.”

"…When abortionist Lisa Harris was 18 weeks pregnant, she performed a D&E abortion on an 18-week-old fetus. Harris felt her own child kick precisely at the moment that she ripped a fetal leg off with her forceps: Instantly, tears were streaming from my eyes—without me—meaning my conscious brain—even being aware of what was going on. I felt as if my response had come entirely from my body, bypassing my usual cognitive processing completely. A message seemed to travel from my hand and my uterus to my tear ducts. It was an overwhelming feeling—a brutally visceral response—heartfelt and unmediated by my training or my feminist pro-choice politics. It was one of the more raw moments in my life."

Harris concluded her piece by lamenting that the pro-choice movement has left providers to suffer in silence because it has “not owned up to the reality of the fetus, or the reality of fetal parts.”

Immediately, this story brought me to Ezekiel 9:4 “…and the Lord said to him, "Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.". How absurd that a baby in the womb can sense the hideous act of abortion, while some abortionists, such as Dr. Harris, have seen ultrasounds and have been exposed to abortion day after day and are still unmoved. Oh that this nation would be found sighing and crying over abortion and not consenting to have it on demand.

Great blog Tiffani! I add Jeremiah 6:13-15 to consider:
13 “From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit. 14 They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace. 15 Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush.”

Reading those detailed accounts from abortionists makes me sick to my stomach. Partially because it is a sickening atrocity, but even more so because it is entirely gruesome. One time I picked up a book in the library titled Blood Diamonds and all I read was the introduction of the book. The accounts of people being maimed for the sake of mining diamonds was so gruesome, I felt faint. I had to put the book back. Abortion is just as terrible, except – maybe – for the fact that aborted babies don’t live to remember what they suffered. These things make me long for Jesus to return soon.
