Super Bowl Ads: Let’s Stick To Beer & Leave Life Out Of This.

By Kaitlin Martinez

Sunday is the Super Bowl and by now you know that the celebrated quarterback for the University of Florida, Tim Tebow, will be starring in a pro-life ad during the game. If you haven’t heard Tim’s story yet it goes a little something like this: his mom, Pam, was a missionary in the Philippines when she got pregnant with Tim, she got a severe infection, the doctors used medicine to treat her and in the process they determined that Tim would be a stillbirth and recommended that Pam have an abortion to protect her own life. She, obviously, denied the abortion and went on to give birth to one of the best college football players of all time. Pretty amazing story, huh? You’d think everybody would love to hear it, right? WRONG. As it turns out, not everyone wants to hear this story.

In fact I found out that a lot of people would rather this commercial never air. I was on facebook and I saw one of my Christian friends had commented on how wasteful and shameful it was for Focus on the Family, the group behind the ad, to be spending 2.5 million dollars on a commercial when so many people were suffering in Haiti. Now, I believe that we need to come to the aid of those in need but I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to say that giving money to other causes impedes upon the compassion and support we give to the Haitians. I mean, during the Super Bowl corporations will spend millions of dollars on commercials to get us to buy their beer or underwear or car insurance or whatever. Therefore isn’t it fitting to, in the midst of all the shameless advertising, air an ad on behalf of those who have no voice? Wouldn’t you agree these unborn children are worth more than a beer commercial?

The other group of people I found out didn’t want the commercial aired were those who stand for, you guessed it, CHOICE. Several abortion rights groups are outraged that CBS would dare play this “controversial” commercial. They claim that Pam Tebow was lucky to have a “choice”. Choice, choice, choice…it’s all about choice. Except if your CHOICE is to be pro-life, then your choice is uneducated, sexist and intolerant. Let’s face it, this commercial isn’t going to change legislation and it doesn’t outlaw abortion. So what’s the big deal? The big deal is they don’t want people to have a choice all at. Oh and did I mention that most of these groups were created with the intention of supporting and empowering women? In this case CBS is the one championing a woman’s right to speak her mind while the pro-choice, pro-women groups are doing everything they can to silence her. How does that make sense?

To CBS and the Tebow’s I commend you for promoting life.

About the Author

Kaitlin comes from a family with a long history of pro-life activism having had to bail her father out of jail more than 50 times for efforts to protect the unborn and free speech. She's only been arrested herself on two occasions, but that's enough for street cred. Kaitlin captures the voice of a young generation desperately trying to reconcile Biblical truths with practical application in culture. In fact, she IS the voice of Bound4LIFE videos like "The Numbers Don't Lie" and "Houston, Now Is The Time."

I am really glad that the lady in a local Washington paper pointed out that Pro-Choice groups weren’t advocating Choice but Pro-Abortion. People will always be able to tell the truth and they are just looking for someone to stand up for it.

KUDOS…TO TIM TEBOW….His mom should be so proud of him. If Tim had beaten his girlfriend or got arrested for drugs people could jump fast enough to get his name and pic posted all over the bowel game. When people stand up for what is morally right and biblically right all of a sudden they have no rights…hmmmmm…somethings wrong with that picture.

Awesome article! I for one am proud of Focus on the Family for spending that kind of cash on a commercial that could save lives. Besides the spread of the Gospel I believe the end of abortion is the most important cause of our time, and should never be placed on the backburner because one crisis or another occurs. Millions, MILLIONS are dying every year through abortion and we need to do what we can to stop it! I will be watching that ad and praying it will affect the hearts of many people.

FYI, the money being spent on the add is coming from private donors to FOTF, not from their general fund. Check their site, Jim Daly let’s everyone know that on a video clip. A small price to pay for the impact it could have on our nation.

Of course we could use the $$ to help Haiti. Although, Americans believe the lie that it’s not a baby. Well folks it’s a baby right after the sperm attaches itself to the egg. I used to think that but after seeing the bay with a heartbeat & pulse before the norm thinks it’s a baby. I was blown away. America wake up. Praise GOD for the commercial. Maybe people will see the ad & not get one! Pam & Tim your awesome! Lisa
