Remember America

We are living in sober times. The words from Matt’s recent article struck a chord with me. He wrote,

“I sincerely don’t want anyone to think that this is not the make it or break it moment for the health care bill”.

Later he said,

“These next few days are the most critical in determining the course that this nation will take.”

I refuse to take these words lightly. This health care bill will change the face of America. Some may welcome this change, believing it will be a benefit to our nation. They assume it will get us closer to our goals of reaching the needy and providing for the poor. Perhaps in a measure this is true. I am not saying there can be absolutely no potential benefit from this bill. However, I will say this; I do believe time will prove this bill is more damaging to America than we will ever know. A bill that is being paraded as helpful is in reality, destructive to the core of who we are as a nation.

At the infancy of America, on July 4th, 1776, Thomas Jefferson penned these words in the Declaration of Independence, 

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Let’s take a moment to consider what was being declared in these humble words. These national leaders unashamedly proclaimed there is a God in heaven who creates and designs men. They wanted our nation to be founded upon this very principle, that life and liberty is a God-given right of every man. The Government of America was formed to protect and honor this right.

America, will you remember these words today? House of Representatives, Senate, President Obama, will you remember? Will you recall these words when you make your final decision for this bill? When you cast a vote for life or death, will you think of our forefather’s dreams and the dreams of our Heavenly Father? Republicans, Democrats, Independents, will you pause for a moment and recollect?

Our forefathers left everything they knew to come to a land where their children could be free. They abandoned their homes, left their occupations, and said goodbye to all that was familiar for one reason. They had a dream. They had a taste for freedom and they were willing to give everything to fight for it. I too, dream that America can be free .Yet I know deep down, we will never be free until abortion is abolished. As long as our government condones and approves of the killing of innocent children; we will never see freedom in our land. We can not and will not be the great nation that God envisioned us to be, as long as this death decree remains.

I weep as I write this. I shed tears over the state of our union. I love America, but I do not love what she has become. I plead along with the prophet Hosea. “Come; let us return to the Lord” Return to the Creator of the earth. Come Home, America!

During the Constitutional Convention of 1787, Thomas Jefferson addressed the leaders of the nation with this question:

“Have we now forgotten our powerful friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance.

He continued on to say,

I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall be become a reproach and a bye word down to future age.

Remember these words, America. We desperately need the aid of a Sovereign God. However, how can we receive this aid, when we break his commandments and grieve his heart? We are in danger of suffering the fate that Jefferson spoke of. A nation whose economy is built on the bloodshed of children is a nation whose labor is in vain. It is a nation to whom shame and reproach is due.

Our precious statue of liberty proclaims,

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of you teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

America was created to defend the poor and the needy. She was called like to, open her mouth for the speechless, judge righteously and plead the cause of the poor and needy.(Proverbs 31:8) This is my America. This is the nation I love.

I leave you with the words of Mother Theresa as she stood before President Clinton and a host of Washington’s leaders to humbly share these thoughts at the Presidential Prayer Breakfast of 94:

“I feel that the greatest destroyer of love and peace today is abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. If we remember that God loves us, and that we can love others as He loves us, then America can become a sign of peace for the world. From here, a sign of care for the weakest of the weak - the unborn child - must go out to the world. If you become a burning light of justice and peace in the world, then really you will be true to what the founders of this country stood for. "

May we return to the principles our nation was founded upon. May the light of America burn brightly again!

While in D.C God gave Christina a burden for the African-American community. She was shocked to find out how her race has been targeted by Planned Parenthood from the start of their organization. Christina is convinced she will see Roe v. Wade overturned and abortion end in her lifetime.
