We call abortion a Holocaust not only because of the mass destruction of a single people group but because it’s a calculated and systemic destruction which began with a goal to weed out what was termed an “inferior” people.
Any look at the writings of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger reminds us that abortion is not, and was never meant to be, a simple operation. Here’s a brief sample:
In her 1920 book, Woman and the New Race, Sanger explicitly called her work "nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or those who will become defectives." As she wrote in The Birth Control Review, "the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the overfertility of the mentally and physically defective." (source)
Sanger’s own words condemn her, not judgments others make of her. And while the abortion industry today pretends to denounce her, they are making their momma proud on a stage before a chorus of demons.
As I read this article, repulsion stuck me. We know women have abortions. We knows pro-abortion folks encourage them to do this, often for financial gain. But we don’t always consider the calculated side, such as this one. A woman who had undergone in vitro fertilization, seemingly because of her desire to be a mother, later found out she was carrying twins. The girl “appeared normal” while the boy seemed to have congenital defects, including Down syndrome. The solution: Selective termination.
Put in blunt terms, selective termination means killing the baby that you don’t want because it’s not “whole” like the baby you do want.
If that sounds harsh, it’s supposed to. It’s pretty harsh to Jesus, too. It’s also exactly what this process is. Through a chemical injection the unwanted baby is killed and the other baby is left to live, but this case made news because the “wrong” baby was killed. The doctor lost his medical license, not for killing a baby, but for killing the baby the mother wanted to keep and leaving the baby the mother wanted to kill.
Ultimately, after the mother discovered the baby with “defects” was left in her womb, she returned to kill the remaining baby. Apparently, she was going to have a perfect baby or no baby at all, by golly.
According to Dr. Mark Evans a New York OB/GYN and geneticist, whom the article says pioneered this procedure, “selective termination may be performed when one of the fetuses is diagnosed with an abnormality, often in the second trimester.” He goes on to add that "Selective termination and reduction are done in multiple pregnancies with the specific aim of preserving the pregnancy.” And perhaps the most disturbing justification of this process is this sentence:
In such cases, the fetus is terminated with a chemical injection that stops its heart. It shrivels up and disappears, Evans said, while the other is left to develop.
To this doctor, it’s not abortion if the baby “disappears” rather than gets vacuumed out. There are days when writing for this blog makes my own mouth drop open with shock; this is one of them.
Evan’s assertion that selective termination is with the aim of preserving pregnancy is also false, as we saw in the case of this woman. He implies that somehow aborting only one of more than one is acceptable and not “really” abortion, and even an act to save the mother’s life. But the fact is, while that could be the technical reason this is considered medically appropriate by some, it’s used for people to select their children, to choose only what is acceptable to them, and not what is acceptable to the Lord.
There’s no disclaimer when the Bible says God formed us in the womb. He does not add, “unless you have a congenital defect, then I didn’t really form you so you can do what you want.”
Can a baby with a perceived defect be as valuable as a baby with an IQ of 180? Of course he can. The idea this is debatable is a sick sign of the times in itself. According to one article, “National statistics indicate that 80-90% of such babies are now aborted — meaning that we have launched a search and destroy mission on Down syndrome babies in the womb.”
We use a cultural standard rather than a biblical one to determine who should live. We pursue an American Dream rather than a Jesus dream. We assume if something is available, it is also permissible. And we miss the joy of simplicity, the value of life and the heart of Jesus in the process.
Selective termination is selective killing and runs even closer to the obvious Holocaust parallel than does the abortion we are used to discussing. This goes beyond women who are scared, pressured and even deceived by the abortion industry into believing they are simply getting rid of tissue. Selective termination actually shows that a woman and a doctor are discussing babies as people with potential for life and assigning value to that potential.
You can dress up the language anyway you want but a holocaust is a holocaust.
