After the events of this week is there any doubt that the Judiciary is important and demands our attention?
A couple of months ago I wrote here about a great tragedy that took place in our nation’s capitol only a few blocks from the front door of the White House. Rev. Pat Mahoney did what Christians have been effectively doing for more than a decade. He knelt down on a public sidewalk to read scripture and pray for the life of the preborn in front of Planned Parenthood. Something different happened on that day however. That day he was arrested by the Washington, DC police and charged with unlawful entry.
A lot of emotion got stirred up as I covered that story. Most of you were outraged that Planned Parenthood would be so audacious as to fence in a public space and declare it "off limits" at their own whim. And you should be outraged. To date no documentation has been produced by Planned Parenthood OR the city of Washington, DC demonstrating that the public space in front of their facility had been changed to private property. The only thing new is their iron fence and No Trespassing sign that is currently being enforced by police.
Some of you had a different opinion. A few commented that the sign clearly says "No Trespassing," so as Christians we should simply obey it. It was even pointed out that the police enforcement of the sign was evidence that it was the law. If that is the conviction of your faith, then by all means follow it. But how would you feel if someone discovered that it was a lie and more babies have died as a result?
It’s important for everyone to understand what the current situation is for this case. On June 29, Rev Mahoney was ordered to appear in Court for his arraignment. It was at that time that he planned to enter a "not guilty" plea. Rev. Mahoney, in fact, had already been scheduled to speak at a conference in California at that time, and he was forced to fly back to DC just for the arraignment. The plan was to legally move forward with court process in order to legally establish the true nature of that DC property. What happened next was quite telling. THE U.S. ATTORNEY WAS A NO-SHOW. At his court appearance REV. MAHONEY WAS NOT CHARGED WITH ANY CRIME and sent on his way.
What does that mean? It means that Planned Parenthood STILL has a fence and a No Trespassing sign blocking public property four blocks in front of the White House. It means Planned Parenthood still has city police removing praying Christians with threat of arrest. That fence is there for one purpose: to keep Christians from praying at the gate of death and effectively offering alternatives to young women seeking an abortion. With Rev. Mahoney not being charged with a crime at his arraignment it leaves the whole situation with a giant question mark on it. The city doesn’t know what to do about this. No laws have been broken, and yet Planned Parenthood still has the enforcement of the police for a No Trespassing sign that’s a lie.
Rev. Mahoney has organized a response to this situation. It is called A TIME TO STAND. I want to invite you to participate in this strategic prayer gathering in our nation’s capitol. Rev. Mahoney is coordinating involvement also for those who may wish to participate in "crossing the line to pray." This is entirely a personal decision and not a requirement by Bound4LIFE, A Time To Stand, Rev. Mahoney or anyone else involved. I want to encourage you to attend just for the sake of prayer, to show support and to witness what is happening here. I am told by Rev. Mahoney that if you are curious, attorney Jay Sekulow and the American Center for Law and Justice has already pledged free representation for anyone that chooses to "cross the line to pray." Please watch this heartfelt call for A Time To Stand below.
