• One-Sided Rhetoric Fuels Pro-Abortion Industry

  Last week a Tweet from the South Dakota House Democrats said, “Today women lost more of their rights in SD with HB 1217.” It matched many of the comments made the week before when the United states House of Representatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood.

  The comment from SD refers to a bill that passed the South Dakota House 49-19 and has been sent to the Senate. Making national headlines for its “extreme” nature, the bill, in simplest form, requires women wanting an abortion have a 72 hour waiting period and receive counseling from a crisis pregnancy center to make sure their decision is not coerced or happening under the emotional pressure of the moment—you know, like when you have any major surgery.

  In fact, abortion is the only surgery that one can just pop in, get, and walk out without any required follow-up care. However, the pro-abortion rhetoric these days might make you think otherwise.

• You Can Take Down A Billboard, But You Can

  There are certain things that frustrate me: 1) Being told to lower my voice in a library when I’m already attempting to be quiet. (Happened more than once) 2) The idea that you can’t talk about religion and politics in most daily conversations. (Some sort of unspoken rule) 3) When people are simply being honest about an issue, and their message is labeled as being “too controversial.”

  All those things bug me. Maybe it’s because I don’t like being silenced. Now, I will admit, there are times to be quiet. In the movie theaters after the previews are over and the film begins. Yes. In a history museum, when you’re viewing ancient artifacts. Sure, inside voice works. In a nursery, where the little ones just began to fall asleep. Okay.

  Yet there are other times when it is not okay to be hushed, silenced, or shushed, if you will. Case in point- the recent billboards in NY. Last week the pro-life group “ Life Always” did a special billboard in light of Black History Month. Instead of remembering the black heroes of centuries past, they choose to highlight one of the greatest problems blacks in this generation face. They put up a giant billboard with the picture of a black girl and the words “The most dangerous place for an African-American child is in the womb.” Bam!

• But They Don’t Burn Babies Alive Now

  It was a question in English class. Studying a Holocaust novel, students were offering opinions on how society reacted as the Nazis burned babies alive in incinerators. You could see the disbelief in their faces as they learned things such as in this report on the Auschwitz death camp:

  At Auschwitz children were often killed upon arrival. Children born in the camp were generally killed on the spot. Near the end of the war, in order to cut expenses and save gas, cost-accountant considerations led to an order to place living children directly into the ovens or throw them into open burning pits. 

  As the classes discuss these actions, eyes get big, and statements of disbelief flood the room. What I can’t say but want to yell from the rooftops is that the only thing that has changed is that we kill them before they can cry so we don’t see the truth.

  The truth is that this is exactly how we dispose of aborted babies today. We burn them.

• Tristan is Great: An Adoption Update

  So, howz about a Tristan update? You got it.

  Trissy is 3 months old. He’s fat and jolly and awesome, like a tiny beardless Santa Claus. If he’s not sleeping or hungry, he’s smiling. Even when you’re sleep deprived, seeing a fat little baby beaming at you in the middle of the night is good stuff. I can get a giggle out of him if I try hard, but it’s a slightly nervous half laugh, half cry.

• The Truth about Planned Parenthood Funding

  Perhaps what surprised me most about the blog I wrote in a few intense minutes last week was the reaction we received. The House of Representatives had voted 240-185 to defund Planned Parenthood. The news was breaking, and we are one of the pro-life news outlets, so I reported the vote, with some commentary. 

  You’d think I was reporting that the Constitution had been revoked and we had lost our rights to choose our own clothing every day. The outcry of the pro-abortion contingency was loud and critical. In fact, it was one of our most heavily commented and shared blogs ever.

  The reaction from the pro-abortion side was that women’s rights were being taken away and access to important health care services for women was being removed. Indeed, many argued, both on our blog and elsewhere, in some rural areas, if there is no Planned Parenthood, women will die or something.

• Avenging Zachary

  Last week I got an urgent email from one of my friends who is active in the pro-life community. She had just talked with a pregnant mother who was contemplating aborting her child. The woman had agreed to go to a Crisis Pregnancy Center and get an ultrasound. She realized she was 20 weeks pregnant with a boy, and decided to name him Zachary.

  This young woman saw her child in the womb, knew his sex, and named him. Yet she still wanted to go through with the abortion. Later I found out, she decided to keep him, but was without a place to live because of her decision. My friend was now in search of a place for her to stay, and carry this child. 

  A few days later I got another urgent email. This one was about a mom who was 17 weeks pregnant with a child that was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. This mother already bought baby clothes for her child and told her other 2 year old, that a sibling was on the way. When the parents realized this baby had Down Syndrome, they decided to abort it. They convinced themselves this would be the best choice for their child. They like the earlier woman had already named their child as well. He was a boy, and they named him Zachary.

• The Priest, The Minister, and The Volcano

  For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by volcanos and volcanic eruptions. The science of Volcanology tells us a great deal about predicting an eruption, and the different types of eruptions.

  Some are like Mount St. Helen where the buildup of pressure is so severe that it blows the side off of the mountain in one cataclysmic bang. Other volcanos simply ooze molten lava from their fissures and caldera in rivers that travel far and wide, spreading out and creating an entirely new landscape by burning away all in its path and becoming the foundational rock for an entirely new ecosystem.

  The eruptions are preceded by increasing tremors, small earthquakes that herald the arrival of the searing newness from within the earth. Those tremors are a warning to all in the vicinity that impending newness cannot be stopped, and will clear away the most recalcitrant inhabitants who do not respect the power below their feet that is rising up to meet them.

  So it has been in New York City these past months with the Pastors from a broad spectrum of Christian churches, most especially those in communities of color. The government’s data on abortion have gone out and shocked the consciences of even ardent proaborts. 89% of all abortions in New York City are had by minority community members. Only 11% are had by whites. And now the slumbering giant of the inner city has been awakened.

• Speier’s Speech- “I’m one of those women”

  The House debated last night over Mike Pence’s amendment to defund Planned Parenthood of about $330 million through the end of September. The chamber was silent as Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) held the floor for a few minutes. In her brief speech, she revealed having had an abortion in what seemed to be an impromptu moment.

• House Votes 240-185 to Remove Funding for Planned Parenthood

  Even Democrats joined in the chorus today as the House overwhelmingly voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Voting 240-185, the House voted in support of Rep. Mike Pence’s (R-IN) amendment that would bar federal funding of the abortion provider.

  This historic vote came in light of Live Action’s undercover videos exposing multiple Planned Parenthoods’ willingness to aid in sex trafficking and offer advice on covert abortions for underage girls. Meanwhile, the nation has been shocked by Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s house of horrors abortion clinic in Philadelphia. All of these events, no doubt, precipitated the decision in the House which will now go to the Senate floor.

• Schumer’s 3 Branches of Government

  This is a couple of weeks old, but I just couldn’t resist bringing it up since I pray in front of the Supreme Court most days.

  Recently in a CNN interview Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) urged his Republican colleagues to put partisan struggle aside since we have three branches of government – "We have a House. We have a Senate. We have a President."
