  • Government Willing to Fund Abortion but Not US Soldiers

Posted by Susan Michelle Tyrrell on April 8, 2011

When it comes to abortion, it doesn’t seem to pay to be logical. It’s pretty ironic when you think about it. Reason is valued in our society as a prime commodity. We tell teachers to teach thinking; we demand our workers be able to reason and analyze, and yet we take a basic health issue and allow the most twisted and perverted thinking to drive our society.

People who support abortion laud the freedom of choice. Chanting things like “keep your rosaries off my ovaries” is par for the course when we siege and stand praying to end abortion. Viewed as an enemy to their basic civil rights, I have been in the line of fire, being screamed at for my beliefs.

But now even when ending abortion isn’t the issue, the truth is being shown across the nation. As I write this, even CNN is reporting that the thing that stands between our nation and a government shutdown over a stalled budget process is abortion.

You have to look deeper, though. The issue isn’t about the legality of abortion. The issue is whether the United States taxpayers should fund abortion services. In other words, choice only counts when it’s the choice of pro-abortionists. When we want a choice about our tax dollars not funding something that violates our constitutional rights to our free expression of religion, that no longer matters.

This isn’t new, but what is new is the headlines I am reading today that declare that the government is actually willing to shut down and stop paying its military troops while it continues to fund Planned Parenthood.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) who has previously stated he would see the government shutdown before he would see the nation stop funding Planned Parenthood told CNN today:

"This all deals with women’s health. Everything (else) has been resolved. Everything, It’s an ideological battle. It has nothing to do with fiscal integrity in this country."

While even Republicans disagree with him, I don’t. One of the heart valves of this nation is the blood money pumping abortion into our veins. Reid knows this, but unlike us, he wants to keep the shedding of innocent blood happening—even by keeping those who willingly will give their lives in battle from being paid for their voluntary service to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States.

It’s a perverted and sick society that values abortion services over military service, especially in an era in which national stability is anything but a given.

In my heart, I have believed that the abortion issue will one day escalate and be a trigger connected to a major uprising or war, but somehow I never expected that it would have potential to begin because our elected leaders think funding an agency involved with lies and sex trafficking cover ups that kills the unborn was more important than keeping those who fight for our nation’s dignity and honor on the payroll.

We owe a great debt to those who serve so we can live freely. There is no freedom when we fund those who kill while we defund those who save.

My heart is heavy as I look at a nation that sings "God Bless America" while it inflicts its own curse on its land. Never has there been a more crucial time to stop daily life as we know it and pray for mercy and awakening for this nation.

God cannot bless what we curse.
