President Obama, who has repeatedly said that he wants to “reduce abortion” seems to be dead set on including abortion funding in his health care act. The House votes tomorrow, Thursday, on H.R. 358. This bill will include Hyde Amendment restrictions to the health care plan and bar any federal funding going to insurance plans that fund abortion.
President Obama has vowed to veto the act—even if it passed the House vote. Please take time to read the story here from LifeSite News. The story reports that:
The bill also makes clear that no health insurance carrier may be forced to provide coverage of abortion in any of its health plans, and strengthens the conscience rights of health care workers and institutions to reject abortion training, procedures, or referrals.
One has to wonder why a president of a nation founded on freedom and rights to do things such as conduct private business, exercise religious freedoms and basically live free as long as we don’t infringe on others’ rights, would be so gravely opposed to something that actually allows freedom and choice. The abortion industry claims repeatedly that theirs is a matter of choice. And the president obviously agrees with the abortion industry that choice only runs in one direction:
President Obama, whose administration fought vigorously last year to keep Hyde amendment language out of the health care bill, announced that he “strongly opposes” the bill because it “intrudes on women’s reproductive freedom and access to health care,” claiming the health care bill already preserves federal policy against tax funding for abortion.
The story adds a troubling fact:
The health bill has already led to a major expansion of the abortion industry: health officials announced this summer that virtually every private insurer, including sectarian institutions, would soon be forced to offer free contraception, abortifacient birth control, and sterilization in its health plans as part of an essential “preventive care” package. This is a true travesty of justice in its extreme form. Not only are babies given an expanded right to be murdered, but even businesses and health care workers are having choices robbed from them to do it. Last year, Americans expressed themselves at the polls. We went to the voting booths and elected people we call representatives. Those elected officials went to DC to do their job. But our administration at the executive level doesn’t seem to be okay with that. President Obama's health care plan has been flawed from the beginning by mandating abortion coverage, but as our representatives do their job to uphold existing policy and the people’s wishes for real choice, he vows to veto it. Folks, this is a big deal. This administration is acting in the interest of a special interest group, not the nation.
There are a few things you can do right now. The first is always to pray. Always pray for our president, always pray for our governmental representatives.
Speak out—now. Right now. Click on this link, which will take you to the National Right to Life website and allow you to email your representatives before tomorrow, asking them to support H.R. 358. While the president has vowed to veto it, we still need it to pass, and we still need to send a message to Washington, D.C. It’s more important than ever that we speak up. We have to get louder. Also, call your representatives. Phone calls and emails both are powerful. They do note and tally them.
Speak out in general–use social networking, word of mouth, meetings. We can’t be silenced by a minority who is interested in profit. If you missed our blog earlier today, please take time to read it. If we will speak out on this issue, if we will stand up and say “over my dead body will I take part in killing babies,” things will change. We can’t let one man, one organization, one group take away the rights of a nation, or the life of the nation’s babies.
