  • Obama administration mandates widespread pro-abortive contraceptive coverage

Posted by Susan Michelle on January 20, 2012

Planned Parenthood today praised the Obama administration and the Department of Health and Human Services who despite protests and fights of religious freedom have decided that even if the birth control is an abortifacient, and even if the employer has religious objections to it, those concerns are irrelevant. Universal and mandatory birth control coverage has been ordered, while freedom of religion in this matter is being tossed out the of the White House window.

    Think Progress reports:

“[Most employers will be required to cover contraception in their health plans, along with other preventive services, with no cost-sharing such as co-pays or deductibles. This means that after years of trying to get birth control covered to the same extent that health plans cover Viagra, our country will finally have nearly universal coverage of contraception."

While there is a small religious exemption, many religious employers will now have to face a moment of reckoning as the Obama administration has now decided that’s not a right they get to enjoy, religious affiliation or not.

"Only houses of worship and other religious nonprofits that primarily employ and serve people of the same faith will be exempt. Religiously-affiliated employers who do not qualify for the exemption and are not currently offering contraceptive coverage may apply for transitional relief for a one-year period to give them time to determine how to comply with the rule." (Source)

Folks, this is a troubling and disturbing decision that is a threat to LIFE in a huge degree. First of all, few people still realize that birth control often can lead to abortion. We’ve reported before on the abortifacient aspects of the majority of hormonal birth control.

The article above contains some information on the pill. You can also read more information on why some birth control is completely against the prolife view by actually allowing a fertilized egg to be flushed out, causing spontaneous abortion. Click here, and here for some information on this. Probably the best thorough explanation out there from a pro-life point of view comes from Randy Alcorn. Please take time to read this article.

Scientific fact and the very prescribing information on this birth control tells a woman that it has the potential to thin the lining of the endometrium so she cannot carry a fertilized egg. It literally causes an abortion, and President Obama has now decided, along with the Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, that being a religious institution such as a Catholic hospital is irrelevant to having to provide such coverage. They will be forced to cover a woman’s “right” to accidentally kill her baby, in the name of “preventative health care.” Does my language sound harsh? Perhaps that’s because the baby getting flushed out by federal rule gets a harsh punishment.

America, it’s bad enough that we have the right to legally kill, but to be mandated by the federal government to pay for that right is unconscionable. This PDF report highlights current state coverage on birth control mandates, which, at some level, applies to 28 states. Now it applies to all fifty. The federal government under the Obama administration has continually increased abortion coverage and now has added to its distaste and flagrant disregard of religious freedom  and pro-life conscience issues by eschewing it all.

We have a problem, folks, and it’s time to speak up—for the sake of those who are being stifled in the womb.
