One of my favorite possessions is my lavender, alphabetized, categorized coupon binder. I am completely unashamed of my obsession with coupons and great deals. Once my husband asked me, “Why do women always tell you what a great deal they got on any article of clothing that you compliment.” The answer is simple, “We love great deals!” It’s a Proverbs 31 woman trait to earnestly seek bargains and provide the most with the least for our families.
She is energetic, a hard worker, and watches for bargains. She works far into the night!
Proverbs 31:17-18 (TLB)
When I think coupons I think moms. Sunday afternoon clipping parties after church, weekly store circulars, and of course online coupon resources. I would say that for manufacturers pushing out new products or trying to get rid of over stocked inventory through the use of coupons, I am an excellent target. We women make great targets for amazing deals and bulk buys because we were created to be prudent keepers of the house and ensure our homes have no lack.
Recently I stumbled on two shocking, stomach turning coupons. One my husband found. A $50 off coupon for Sunday abortions. Now when I clip the newspaper on Sundays, I am reminded that women are redeeming coupons that very moment at abortion centers. While I get excited about saving 50 cents here and there to put more food on our table, another woman with my zeal for saving is paying to kill her baby on a different type of table.
I was just scrolling through the “personal care” category of an online coupon resource when I froze upon the sight. $10 off plan B-one step. Deodorant, hair spray, and the morning after pill do not belong in the same category. I feel sick every time I go to this site. Now I either scroll super fast or just avoid that category. I recently wrote the coupon company and asked them to remove it from their database and explained my convictions.
I think too many of us have a skewed mind set that most women obtaining abortions are scared high school girls who feel forced and desperate. A coupon campaign would be an ineffective strategy for high school girls, and the billion dollar abortion industry is very well aware of their demographic. From their own source, the Guttmacher institute, here are some shocking reasons they use coupons to target women:
- Six in 10 American women having an abortion already have a child.
- More than seven in 10 U.S. women obtaining an abortion report a religious affiliation.
- Three-fourths cite concerns for or responsibility to other individuals as their reason to abort.
According to the ones performing abortions, it is likely that church going moms clipping coupons on Sunday will also be customers at abortion centers.
This is alarming, even devastating to me. Please join me in praying that the church become more bold in standing against abortion and affirming life. Please pray for the women you would typically least expect to have abortions or that you would even imagine to consider it. Moms who go to church are sadly ideal targets for the industry of death.
We have to support mothers and honor them and do everything we can to help them with the loads they carry. The Bible says that God gently leads the ones with young. Pray for the moms you know in church, and specifically ask God to show you ways that you can help them and encourage them to always choose life.
