My husband taught on Psalm 27 last night and my heart ached as I read the words of David. I imagined them coming from a baby in the womb while his mother and father were plotting and committing abortion.
A baby’s ears form at just 16 weeks. The safest, most comforting sound in his tiny world should be the sound of His mother’s voice and heartbeat. When his parents plot abortion, the baby hears the words they say against him. You may scoff at the idea that a tiny baby could understand the words of his mother, but recent research
confirms that babies learn to recognize and understand words in the womb! I imagine a frightened baby boy without hope in a dark womb surrounded by talks of his death uttering these words in his heart,
“The Lord is my light and my salvation… When the wicked advance against me to devour me…” (Psalm 27:1-2)
A baby’s heart begins beating at only six weeks and their sweet tiny hearts beat about 4 or 5 times faster than the average adult. As the boy in the womb grows, I imagine he hears his parents fight and scream about how they did not plan for him and how expensive he will be. They call him “it” and argue back and forth about his fate. When parents make an appointment to abort, the abortionist joins into the army against the innocent heart beating so rapidly in the womb. The entire network of pro-abortion fanatics have been waging this war against his life since they encouraged the promiscuity and selfishness of his parents. No matter what they say or how they despise him, his tiny heart loses no resolve. It continues to beat fearlessly.
“Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear, though war break out against me…” (Psalm 27:3)
I imagine the baby’s thoughts and silent prayer from the womb longing for a safe, better place as he realizes that his short life is almost over and that there is a day of great trouble ahead. Even in this scary, sad place, God’s supreme hand is still on the young boy, and my prayer is that the babies in waiting rooms of evil abortion centers are comforted by God’s hand even as their parents wait to slaughter them. I imagine this desperate little boy praying for safety that his mother’s womb was intended to provide for him.
“One thing I desire, that I may dwell in the house of The Lord…for in the day of trouble he will keep me safe… And hide me…then my head will be exalted above my enemies.” (Psalm 27:4-6)
As the abortion procedure begins, the innocent baby can feel pain and tries to move any way he can to avoid the miserable death he faces. I have seen images referred to as “silent screams” of babies trying desperately to to cry for help. Not a sound is heard from the womb. As we at Bound4LIFE silently siege at abortion centers and courts, we sympathize with their inability to utter a sound as they flinch from instruments of death entering their deathly abode.
”Hear me…be merciful to me…my heart says ‘seek His face.’ Do not hide Your face from me… Do not reject me or forsake me…” (Psalm 27:7-9)
Rejected by the very parents who conceived him and ripped apart from the only home he’s ever known, I imagine only one comfort remains- for the boy aborted and for the nation grieving the untimely death of millions of babies- that the babies are safe at last from the parents who abandoned them.
“Though my father and mother forsake me, The Lord will receive me.” (Psalm 27:10)
