• Meet Donald Berwick: The New Medicare/Medicaid Chief

    By Ian Kelly

No, I'm not saying (yet) that he will be instituting "death panels" or that your grandmother will be euthanized under his leadership. But he is an ideologue who's views imply that government knows best.

  • Some Things You Should Know About Vaccines

    By Susan Tyrrell
Perhaps no blog has stirred the hearts of readers like the second in our Industry of Death series which reported on the source of most commonly issued vaccines for children—aborted babies’ cells. Part of the fetal research industry financial benefit has been vaccine development, and before Roe V. Wade hit our nation, the cells of aborted babies were already being used in vaccines.

The horror of this reality has caused both total strangers and close friends alike to contact me about this issue, asking for help, asking what to do. Of course, I can’t tell anyone what to do with such an intense and high-stakes decision. We all want children safe from disease but we don’t want to use abortion as the route to that safety. What a horrible situation for a pro-life parent. All I can do is research and give the information that maybe you won’t hear in another place so you can make an informed decision.

Here’s what we do know about fetal cells used in vaccines: Most vaccines are grown from human diploid cells (HDCS); “HDCS refers to groups of human diploid cell strains that maintain normal human chromosomal numbers and characteristics, while dividing throughout their limited lifetime in a laboratory setting” (Evans 44). According to the National Network of Immunization Information:

Two different strains of human diploid cell cultures made from fetuses have been used extensively for vaccine production for decades. One was developed in the United States in 1961 (called WI-38) and the other in the United Kingdom in 1966 (called MRC-5).

  • Adoption Basics

    By Jess Clark

I had really been the driving force behind wanting to adopt, with Richy waiting for some kind of angelic visitation or divine revelation. Lucky for me, there’s a lot of divine revelation in the Bible about adoption. We filled out our pre-application in February, and were finished with the paperwork and the homestudy process by late May. Now, we wait.

I am going to talk about the practicals of adoption in upcoming posts- today, I’m just going to give a quick run-through of some adoption basics.

Adoption is confusing to a lot of people. It’s intimidating, the time, the paperwork, the money and the fear of not loving a non-biological child. Oh, and the concern that you may be adopting a hell-spawn that will terrorize you and end up having glowing red eyes and kill your pets.

And why does it cost so much? How could anyone ever adopt when figures are being thrown around are $20,000 to $40,000? Should people adopt when they can’t “afford” to pay for a baby? Why should you contribute to someone else’s adoption?

The overarching questions are, why adopt? Who should adopt? Who should not adopt? What is our Biblical responsibility toward orphans?

  • What Can The Righteous Do?

    By Matt Lockett

I sat in a meeting about this time last year and listened as a well-meaning Senate staffer chastised a room full of conservative leaders over what he considered to be a lack of concern for the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. It was painful to sit still as his words scraped across the room. I, myself, found my own defenses rising to meet this man’s challenge to what he perceived as apathy on my part.

His prickly point: Nothing is more important than the Supreme Court. If they say left is right and bad is good, then it is. And these are lifetime appointments.

  • Baby For Sale At Walmart

    By Christina Martin

A couple was arrested a few weeks ago for attempting to sell their 8 month old baby outside of a Walmart in California, for just 25$.

Patrick Fousek, 38, and Samantha Tomasini, 20 approached two women outside the store and asked them if they’d like to purchase their child. The ladies believed them to be joking at first, but after they persisted, the women become concerned and called the police.

Fousek and Tomasini were arrested shortly after that and are now facing charges for child endangerment, along with drug charges. Their bail is set at $25,000 pending a preliminary hearing. Reports say they could possibly serve four years in prison. Their baby is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.

This story is heartbreaking for a number of reasons.

  • Justice Kennedy Will Not Be Leaving The Court Anytime Soon

    By Ian Kelly

Good news concerning the Supreme Court:

President Obama may get liberal Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court, but conservative swing-voter Anthony Kennedy says he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Justice Kennedy, who turns 74 this month, has told relatives and friends he plans to stay on the high court for at least three more years - through the end of Obama's first term, sources said.

That means Kennedy will be around to provide a fifth vote for the court's conservative bloc through the 2012 presidential election. If Obama loses, Kennedy could retire and expect a Republican President to choose a conservative justice.

Kennedy, appointed by President Ronald Reagan, has been on the court 22 years. He has become a bit of a political nemesis at the White House for his increasing tendency to side with the court's four rock-ribbed conservative justices.

    (...)

With the retirement of fellow Californian and Stanford graduate Sandra Day O'Connor in 2006, Kennedy has inherited O'Connor's mantle as the court's swing vote.

His voting pattern suggests he's actually become a far more reliable vote for the conservatives.

    [source - NYDailyNews]

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy holds a special place in the hearts of our staff. We have spent literally hundreds of hours praying for this man and his family!

I can tell you from a personal standpoint that I believe God has and continues to move on this man's heart! And I pray he will continue to open his heart to the plight of the unborn.
