If you read our story yesterday you know that Kansas is on the verge of being the first abortion-free state in the nation. Today’s Kansas City Star reports that
No Kansas abortion clinic has met the state’s new licensing rules, raising the prospect that by Friday, Kansas will be the only state where women cannot get an abortion.
This would mean that all abortion services will be closed Friday, making Kansas abortion-free, including all Kansas City area abortion clinics on the Missouri side of the city.
While there has been no official announcement, all reports say that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has confirmed that no clinic is going to meet the criteria of inspection to renew its license.
Last week the Aid for Women clinic in Kansas City, KS failed by default when its initial application was denied before even garnering an inspection. Then the large Overland Park, KS abortion clinic was scheduled to be inspected, and the Star reports this powerhouse clinic failed its inspection last week. Planned Parenthood’s director insists it will be in compliance by Friday, but the fact is, it failed and is not in compliance right now. The other remaining abortion clinic, also in Overland Park, the Center for Women’s Health, run by a father-daughter team of abortionists, “was scheduled to be inspected Wednesday. The clinic canceled the inspection thinking it wouldn’t be approved for a license anyway.” In fact, one of the doctors in this pair actually said, “We’re doomed.” So instead of complying with the law, they sued against the law, insisting the KHDE made it too tough and, essentially the governor (pro-life Sam Brownback) is out to get them.
