• Congress launches investigation into Planned Parenthood’s activities

  As this season’s 40 Days for Life campaigns kick off tonight across the nation, Congress seems to be joining in the quest for truth. LifeSite News is reporting that

  “The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has launched an investigation into the Planned Parenthood Federation of America to determine whether the abortion organization handles criminal conduct properly, or has mishandled federal funding to pay for abortions.”

  A letter, dated September 15,  from Cliff Stearns, the chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations demands Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, provide various audit and other data that proves it is in compliance with federal funding regulations and criminal activity procedures, including sex trafficking. • Budget Cuts Cause Planned Parenthoods Furloughs and Closures

  Indiana and Minnesota are living proof of what Planned Parenthood hates: cutting abortion funding can stop them from doing business. Clinics in both states are suffering. In Indiana, the situation sounds like California’s budget crisis which mandated forced furloughs. Today, all but one Planned Parenthood clinic in Indiana will close for the day. The other clinic will close for the day Thursday. The organization says it’s a furlough to save money in order to keep the clinics running until the end of June. The implied part of that statement is that they hope that there will be an injunction on the ban of Planned Parenthood funding by the deadline of July 1 so they can keep the death mills operating.If that doesn’t happen, several clinics in Indiana will then close.

  Moving northwest, the news is even better. On August 1, six clinics in Minnesota will close due to the federal reduction in budget this spring. While the clinics closed are those that don’t do abortions and refer to larger Planned Parenthoods, it’s still all the more of a chance for people in these smaller areas to either seek regular treatment and local federally funded health clinics that are not Planned Parenthood, or they will have to wait and drive to a larger city. This drive, which many would label as a burden and somehow “unfair” for women, means a baby might have a chance to live. Isn’t that why pro-aborts hate waiting period laws so much? The mantra of “abortion on demand” is predicated on “make them spend money now before they change their minds.”

• Minister Says Celebrating Easter Means Promoting Abortion Rights

  The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, the organization filled with mainstream churches that endorse abortion, has an Easter message for its readers: Life is only valuable when it can be lived well, and Jesus endorses that.

  Reverend Matthew Westfox, Director of Interfaith Outreach, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, writes in a special Easter column that

  Easter is about … the victory of God, of love, of justice, over death. “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” reminds me that Easter is a celebration of life itself and what Christians honor and revere about life….. To be pro-life, after all, means to honor life and to cherish it. But do we honor life, or do we honor a heartbeat? Life, after all, is the ability to LIVE, to connect with other human beings, and, for Christians, life is among other things the ability to experience the presence of Christ through those connections. To live is to use our God-given conscience and power of moral decision- making. It is to act as a truly free person with control over one’s own body, sexuality, and reproduction.

  This man is asserting that only lives that can be lived with value and purpose are worth coming forth from the womb. If that baby is going to, as Westfox says, be able to connect with people and with God, then perhaps it’s a life worth living, but a heartbeat is not an indication of that.

• Government Willing to Fund Abortion but Not US Soldiers

  When it comes to abortion, it doesn’t seem to pay to be logical. It’s pretty ironic when you think about it. Reason is valued in our society as a prime commodity. We tell teachers to teach thinking; we demand our workers be able to reason and analyze, and yet we take a basic health issue and allow the most twisted and perverted thinking to drive our society.

  People who support abortion laud the freedom of choice. Chanting things like “keep your rosaries off my ovaries” is par for the course when we siege and stand praying to end abortion. Viewed as an enemy to their basic civil rights, I have been in the line of fire, being screamed at for my beliefs. 

  But now even when ending abortion isn’t the issue, the truth is being shown across the nation. As I write this, even CNN is reporting that the thing that stands between our nation and a government shutdown over a stalled budget process is abortion.

• One of the Strongest Pro-Life Bills in the Nation Signed into Law

  This afternoon the governor of South Dakota signed into law one of the the strongest pro-life bills in the United States. Despite threats of lawsuits or injunctions, Gov. Dennis Daugaard who has proclaimed himself pro-life signed HB 1217 into law after it cleared both the SD House of Representatives and Senate with large margins.

  HB 1217 requires that women in South Dakota seeking an abortion must have a 72-hour waiting period (the longest in the nation) and receive counseling at a crisis pregnancy center before undergoing the procedure.

• Apparently You Can Legislate Morality

  You can’t legislate morality. Or so they saying goes.

  This argument is used by people who support abortion rights, saying that even if we make laws against abortion, it won’t help until the root issue is confronted. But a new study shows otherwise.

  Certainly no law can make a person’s moral core change, but legislation is affecting the number of abortions performed.

  According to US News, pro-life laws that have been created “since 1990 in some 34 states have helped to slash abortion rates by over 22 percent.” The report cites the scholarly journal, State Politics & Policy Quarterly, which found:

• Interfaith Organization, Churches Endorse Abortion

  With each email from the Religion Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC), I get more concerned; if the church is standing against the church in the issues of abortion, how then can we stand as one? What’s disturbing me is that there is a contingency of those who claim to name the name of Jesus and stand up for unlimited abortion rights. Some of those are mainstream churches that, in many cases, solid pro-life believers attend and don’t even realize have roots in this organization.   The RCRC website is filled with such resources as prayers and sermons for choice. It offers a “Christian perspective” on abortion that insists true Christians support abortion rights.

• Believing the Big Pink Lies

  As Planned Parenthood has been parading around the nation with its pink bus on its “Truth Tour,” I’m reminded of childhood lessons on lying. Remember Pa Ingalls talking to Laura about how not telling all of the truth is still a lie? In the grown up world we call that the difference between a lie of commission and a lie of omission. Planned Parenthood’s “Truth Tour” is a lie of omission, which still translates to a lie.

  As the bus, travels on, finishing its tour today, Planned Parenthood seems to have hijacked the “breast cancer pink” so it can use some subconscious messaging. You know, “Even though it’s just been revealed we have killed over 5 million babies, we are safe, like breast cancer pink makes you think—fighting for your life by killing your baby.”

• The Truth about Planned Parenthood Funding

  Perhaps what surprised me most about the blog I wrote in a few intense minutes last week was the reaction we received. The House of Representatives had voted 240-185 to defund Planned Parenthood. The news was breaking, and we are one of the pro-life news outlets, so I reported the vote, with some commentary. 

  You’d think I was reporting that the Constitution had been revoked and we had lost our rights to choose our own clothing every day. The outcry of the pro-abortion contingency was loud and critical. In fact, it was one of our most heavily commented and shared blogs ever.

  The reaction from the pro-abortion side was that women’s rights were being taken away and access to important health care services for women was being removed. Indeed, many argued, both on our blog and elsewhere, in some rural areas, if there is no Planned Parenthood, women will die or something.
